The Enigmatic Maetel

Galaxy Express 999 is an amazing series. I didn't actually get into it until recently, and I am wondering what took me so long. It so beautifully portrays the human condition - what it is to be mortal, what it is to be alive, and what makes life so precious. Maetel is a very mysterious character. Quiet and yet dynamic at the same time, with an air of mystery. Even after watching the entire anime you are left wondering who she is, and there are so many questions to ask. Not to mention the inconsistencies and lack of continuity in the Leijiverse. The more I explored Maetel, and the works of Leiji Matsumoto, the more questions that come up regarding her. I don't want to spoil anything though, but if you haven't explored his works, please do. They are amazing, and something about them is what is lacking in today's anime. Or, I may be a stickler to the classics, which I admit, I am.

Photos taken by my boyfriend at Youmacon 2012. I both made and wore the costume. The costume is made of high-end non-stretch premiere velvet, and is lined (both dress and mantle) in satin lining. The hat is a velboa fur, the fur used as the trim was handmade out of the fur purchased from Sy Fabrics and was sewn on by hand. The only alteration I may make is take it in at the waist a bit more - it's a tad loose still. And curl the hair loopies a bit more, I did those last minute in the hotel room and I am not 100% sold on how they look yet. The galaxy edit for the photo on the left was done by Avianna.
